Alina Iovcheva

Alina Iovcheva is a Senior Teacher and Researcher for the Jean Monnet Module EVADEM (Implementation of European Values as a Basis of Democracy in Ukraine), Associate Professor at the Department of History at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University (Mykolaiv, Ukraine), PhD in Political Science (2014). Her academic career has combined teaching, research, and international project management. From 2013 to 2022, she served as Head of the International Relations Office of the university, overseeing the conclusion of international agreements, the coordination of academic mobility programs for students and faculty, the organization of visits of foreign delegations, and the university’s integration into European academic and research networks. During her tenure, she successfully facilitated dozens of initiatives in partnership with leading European universities and institutions.

Teaching & Research

Since 2014, Dr. Iovcheva has been an Associate Professor at the Department of History, where she teaches socio-political disciplines, develops academic curricula, and pursues scholarly research. Her research interests focus on democratic transformations in Eastern Europe, the implementation of European values in transitional democracies, the security policy of the European Union, and regional integration processes.

Projects & Fellowships

  • Coordinated and lectured in the Visegrad Fund initiative “Democracy in Transition with V4 Experience” (2015–2018).
  • Awarded two prestigious fellowships in 2022–2023: Field of Excellence “Dimensions of Europe” and ALLEA Fellow at the University of Graz (Austria), where she conducted research and taught a course on European values and democratic transformations.
  • Initiated and coordinated in 2022 the Twinning partnership between Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University and Swansea University (UK) to strengthen academic collaboration and mobility.
  • Served in 2023–2024 as Coordinator of the Dissemination and Transparency Committee of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “Distance Education for Future: Best EU Practices in Response to the Requests of Modern Higher Education Seekers and Labor Market (DEFEP)”.
  • Currently a senior lecturer and researcher within the Jean Monnet Module “Implementation of European Values as a Basis of Democracy in Ukraine” (EVADEM), and project coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module “The European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy: Challenges Related to the War in Ukraine” (ESEDEP).
  • Her contributions include the design and delivery of academic courses, public lectures, workshops, and research publications on European studies, democracy, and security.

International Experience

Dr. Iovcheva possesses extensive international experience, having undertaken research visits and academic training at Swansea University (UK), Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the University of Palermo (Italy), Rey Juan Carlos University (Spain), Saarland University (Germany), Pomeranian Academy (Poland), and Sofia University (Bulgaria). She is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications in Ukrainian and international journals and has presented her research at academic conferences across Europe.
